Happy Trails: Brandon Lyon
The hits just keep on coming! Brandon Lyon is heading to the Astros after signing a 3-year $15 Million deal reports the Detroit Tigers Weblog. No emotions on this side, although Lyon was a nice reliable bullpen piece who would have fit in nicely as a closer in 2010. For $5 Million per year though, I'd rather have Curtis Granderson...
This does make me wonder what exactly the Tigers are planning to do at closer next year. Will Rodney be back? Somebody from the outside? One of the young guns in the system? It all remains to be seen... On the plus side, Lyon was a Type B free agent, which will net the Tigers a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds of the draft. There's plenty of talent available there, so it is just another step in the right direction for a team looking to stay young, lean and mean.
