Adam Everett Watching a batted ball that has an 80% chance of being an out

The Detroit Tigers Weblog tells us that after today's ugly game, the Tigers designated Shortstop Adam Everett for assignment. In his place, Danny Worth--the brief replacement for Scott Sizemore at 2B while Carlos Guillen was still on the mend--has been recalled and will split duties with Ramon Santiago.

Everett has been truly Oyleresque during his time with the Tigers, and I hate to say that there's just not much room for that in today's game. Well, there is, I guess, but not when you have more than one player going sub-mendoza for the first three months of the season.

Gerald Laird, you're officially on notice. Clearly, this is a Tigers team that is not afraid of cutting bait.

Welcome Back: Adam Everett

Billfer at the Detroit Tigers Weblog tipped me off to Adam Everett's return to the Tigers. A Ken Rosenthal tweet says that the one year deal is for $1.55 Million. This is an unambiguously good move in my opinion. Everett, while light with the bat, provides the reliable defender that the Tigers NEEDED, given that they're starting a defensively average (at best) rookie at second base next year. The short term contract also gives the Tigers another year to develop their internal talent, all of whom are still a year or two away.

At $1.55 Million the Tigers don't hurt the budget, keep a quality player on the team and fill a much needed hole in the roster.
